A good day

First time out in two weeks today, but I need to get back on track. Half marathon in March and I signed up to run 100 miles in February to raise money for the Mater Hospital, where my Dad was a patient for many years, and where he died. His consultant set up a fund in his name for oncology nurse education, so I am running to raise money for that. That will keep me on the straight and narrow! Seven days of running – day 1.

To deal with the Christmas excess and to set my intention for the New Year, I created a little challenge for myself: go running every day this week, before I go back to work proper next Monday. I got a few runs in last week, but now that the Christmas obligations are pretty much over, I am going to run at least 3 miles every day. Got off to a good start today, 3.5 miles around the block and felt all the better for it.

Yesterday two years ago I completed the Inca Trail and arrived at Machu Picchu after a 45k trek. Sunday I am taking part in my first half-marathon, 13.1 miles, in Dublin, my home city. Will find out shortly which was the bigger challenge.
