Trying to act like a marathoner while on holidays

Greetings from sunny Malta! It’s a beautiful island in the Mediterranean, below Sicily, so it’s hot. Really hot. 30 by day, 25 by night. Not conducive to running but very conducive to lolling about, eating pizza and drinking during the day.

However, I am conscious that I am due to run a marathon in 5 weeks and so have got out running on Sunday and this morning. Sunday was overcast, but there was blazing sunshine this morning so I found the shade as much as possible, and ignored the looks of all the people strolling round. It was 28 degrees, felt like 31! However I did 3 miles this morning, got in several hills and generally felt like I had a shot at doing a marathon. My knees were ok too so maybe the break is doing me good? I will try and go again tomorrow on our last full day here.

And I feel great after it, though that might not last long. I’m sure there is a shady cafe somewhere I can recuperate.

  1. Enjoy the break – it will do you good.

    • Thanks Vince – it has. Hopefully I can get back on the straight and narrow fairly quickly!!

  2. Ha ha, not foolin’ me! You just wanted to have the old ‘run route in a foreign country’ on your running stats. 😉

    • Well yes, I’m not really behaving like a marathoner in other respects between the eating and drinking and dossing!! But it’s so beautiful here it’s very pleasant to get out

      • It’s part of the taper. Cough.

        • Jaysus, I still have two long runs to go!
