Pity about the pandemic

On Friday night our Taoiseach (head of government) went on tv to announce further restrictions on non-essential travel in an effort to reduce the spread of the virus in the community. That includes staying within 2km of home when exercising. It’s a good job I’m used to running in circles around my neighbourhood! I’m all set – bring it on. 3 socially distant miles yesterday and they were very nice. And quiet. There’s always an upside.

I will try and do 3 miles as often as I can. Summer time started officially today so we have some nice long evenings to look forward to. Pity about the global pandemic.

We in the US are not so good at compliance with government orders. It’s something that’s sort of built into the ethos of the country from the foundation, I imagine.

I myself am highly unlikely to be compliant with totalitarianism for very long. It be a lot easier for me to deal with if there were reliable source dispersing information. But all of it’s coming from Mainstream Media sources and the governments — neither of which have any credibility or any history of being honest.

Stay healthy and keep up the pace.

    • And I thought the Irish were rebellious! Most people are taking it on board however- the virus is very real, have no doubt about it. It will rip through any population. Funerals are banned here now would you believe. So we are hoping for short term pain for longer term gain. It’s hard to believe what’s happening really but it’s true. It’s a nightmare really.

I’m sure the virus is real… I’m not so sure about the hype and hysteria…

And we’re both rebellious populations against the same oppressors, if my history serves me right. 🙂

        • Yes the British, our common oppressor! They were so determined not to panic that they woefully under prepared and are now facing 6 months of lockdown. Hard to believe they ruled the world. Yes hysteria is no good, have to just get on with it.

We’re working from home for the foreseeable future. The cat just doesn’t understand social distancing, but otherwise we’re all doing fine…

            Keep safe, Julie.

          • Yes you too Matt! Hopefully it won’t be as bad as it could be

I don’t think it will be… and I’ve personally found that by not believing most of the media misinformation, I’m not overly worried. About the only thing I think they have accurate is “there is a covid-19 strain”.

Dennis Prager offered some good advice about what to do… so take it for what it’s worth to you:

            Hope it helps someone!

          • Well that’s all very sensible advice – thank you!

          • Oi – that’s ‘former’ common oppressor if you don’t mind. I’m not sure who was prepared but I don’t think the 6 months talked about is either fixed, or is all lockdown. Won’t places have to relax and retighten the rules a few times to get the infection through the population in a controlled manner?

          • Of course it is! No offence intended!! Yes I don’t know how any of us are going to be re-integrated. They are talking about anti-body tests but that would mean we all need to get it. I think that will be the next big challenge. As if we’re not challenged enough.

  2. There are lots of memes flying around at the moment. One caught my eye the other day, having a pop at joggers, who apparently know every run they’ve ever done down to the last tenth of a kilometre but haven’t a clue what 2 metres is. Ho, ho. No doubt you’ve had some looks of horror as you breach the cordon, passing walkers. I know I have. Though in fairness, most are fine. Stay safe. Keep running.

And Matt: don’t trust the politicians or a lot of media. But do trust the science. The science is good.

    • Yes I got the evil eye from a couple on Saturday morning though I was well away from them, so I just said a cheery ‘morning!’. It’s quite annoying that runners are getting flack here – if pedestrians could pay attention and not insist on walking 3 abreast it would be much easier. Yes stay well yourself.
