Exerting myself for charity

Today was a charity event at work where we had to run or walk 2 or 5k, take a photo and make a donation. So I exerted myself to extend my run to 3.1 miles/5k. I found I’ve been running a bit faster than usual during the pandemic – for no other reason than I’m anxious to get home. I’ve done 10 minute miles so I thought I would try and do 5k in 30 minutes, which would be very good for me.

I changed my watch setting to show kilometres over miles, so that was disconcerting as I don’t have a sense of how far a kilometre is. I also stopped to take a few photos cause for this type of thing no-one is interested without a photo. I stopped the watch of course.

I was nearly there at 30 minutes so I knew I’d go over, but I tried to finish within 31 minutes which meant I was really was pushing it at the end, but I finished at 30.38 which I think is my best 5k. I did feel like puking when I stopped however – a sure sign of overdoing it.

Needless to say, the competitive element at work kicked in and there were some super times recorded – 24 mins for a woman and 21 something for the men. However, there were very few women who ran it at all so I‘m glad I participated. I’m sure we raised a decent amount of money too.

  1. Well done and a great time! I dream of doing a sub 30 5K one day – but I seem to be getting further and further away. I blame the hills…

    • Thank you! I’m not sure if I could manage less than 30 mins but it’s always good to have a goal! Good luck with the hills!

Nice… I hadn’t imagined Ireland so empty… you Runners must be scaring away the locals 😉

    • I know it’s very quiet! The walkers haven’t woken up yet
