Win win

I am determined to keep my fitness up till marathon training starts (everything going to plan that is), and want to make my Saturday runs 6 miles. I wanted to do 4 miles yesterday, to work my way back up to 6, and would have if the gale force winds hadn’t come back.

I drove down to my parents’ house, left the car and headed down to the canal. It was all fine till I turned onto the canal itself, then I realised I was running into a strong breeze again. It blew in my face till I turned at 1.6 miles and was much easier then when it was pretty much at my back. I could enjoy the fresh air, the water and the trees.

It actually got quite warm so I was a sweaty heap when I got back to my parents’ house. My dad was a bit shocked at the cut of me. I told him I met one of the neighbours on my way, and he muttered something to the effect of ‘oh my god’, meaning ‘in that state??’ I reassured him it was on the way out, so I was a lot more presentable at that stage.

In the end I did 3.75 miles and felt fine. I enjoyed running around the place I grew up, despite the risk of meeting the neighbours. And I had a nice chat with my mam and dad. Double win.

That’s good. It means you don’t have to start from zero. When is your marathon? Is it early fall?

    • Late October hopefully

  2. Special place in heaven when you run into the wind!
